Default Suggestion Regarding Infusion *Spoiler*

How about making it ONE trip to get one's armour infused instead of FIVE?
Because um 5 trips doing that run over and over and over is enough to make a person want to blow their brains out due to the repetitiveness of it all.

I mean geez THAT timesink isn't even subtle.

For those that don't know but decided to read the spoiler anyways there is a mission in the iron mines wehre you get a piece of your armour infused. You have to do this retarded run through countless mobs to get to the seer who then points you to a boss to kill. Your reward is one piece of your armour infused.

It's not like you can skip getting the infusion done, not if you like being alive .... The infusion protects you against the mussara's spells ... but you have to have all 5 pieces infused for it to be complete protection.

Long story short it's a stupid grind, yet another example of a timesink in a game that supposedly was moving away from such things.

Its alot better than going to certain zones in a certain game and spend months to get your full set of armour though dont you think?

Why do people insists they should have everything handed to them on a silver platter in this game?

I'ts not on a silver platter, and it is because the game's makers suggested such in their advertising campaign. Because the website says (at http://www.guildwars.com/gameinfo/default.html) (italics added to highlight word choice):

Quote:
In addition to building up a character by undergoing missions and quests, you can choose to create a character specifically for head-to-head PvP competition or guild warfare. The game is designed to reward player skill and teamwork, not time spent playing, so you won't need to spend hundreds of hours leveling up your character to compete.
and elsewhere in their FAQ:

Quote:
Success in Guild Wars is always the result of player skill, not time spent playing or the size of one's guild.
and because I have been following this game for over a year and a half, and have gotten the impression again and again, in article after article, and ad after ad, and interview after interview, that they meant the above statements.

THose statements are exactly accurate. You can make a lvl 20 pvp character right out of the box and compete in pvp with anyone that has played the game for months or even years.

The infused armor has nother to do with competing with other player. It is essential to the PvE portion of the game, but having infused armor means 2 things in PvP.. Jack and that other word that starts with S.

If you are a skillful enough player by nature.. you can.. your very first day playing, compete with more experienced player and actually stand a decent chance of winning matches. Is it practical to expect such things.. NO.. of course not. No one in their right mind expects to beat a hardcore player with months of experience and all teh PvE unlocks. But you CAN compete with them without being seriously outmatched by equipment or levels.

I'm pretty certain that this is what ANet was saying and implying with their publicity. And they have followed through on that. How much more competitive you want to be will of course take time and a certain amount of grinding and all.. but you can compete the minute you install the game.

Obviously there are a LOT of people out there that read more into the statements than was intended. That isn't ANet's fault.. That is people seeing only what they wanted to see. It's a human sort of thing to do. I've done it many time in other situations myself. But I never in an instant thought I was going to be able to toe to toe with the PvP big dogs without loads of practice and learning and unlocking.

However I could and DID jump into PvP and compete and win a few matches right out fo the box.

Blaming ANet for our own shattered delusions isn't really the thing to do.

If you can do the mission once, you can do it again.
That being said, why be practically forced to do it again, and again, and again, and again... (that many agains), and then again some more if you plan on switching your +attribute headgear at any time involving Mursaat.

The mission doesn't get more challenging, more interesting, or more of anything except old and tiresome with each run. It's JUST grind, and not a thing more. I don't see how not wanting to do something you've already done 4 times+ more, when a single time should suffice (does it even make sense story-wise repeating that mission 5 times? >.< Not that you shouldn't be able to repeat missions, but any other mission, the benefits wouldn't repeat.)

I don't really understand how you could possibly defend it either.

I buckled down and did it 6 times and captured Barrage there, and while it certainly wasn't game-breakingly annoying, I certainly didn't enjoy it, and I can understand how frustrating it must be for others.

You're in no way forced to do 5 infusion runs. Infusion gives diminishing returns after the first piece, to the point of pieces 4 and 5 being pretty negligable in the overall scheme of how much damage you're actually taking in late-game combat. Coincidnetly, there's 3 places you can get infusion done, so to get 90% of the benefit, you don't need to repeat anything at all.

I will say that all the quests to get infusions are pretty lame though =/

Yeah well, the other places for infusion aren't exactly "accessible"; one of them is in the wilderness beyond the copper mines, and the other I haven't even found yet. Besides, most people in the group WILL need to be fully infused, you'll just get overwhelmed if you aren't (since spectral pain seems to randomly target people.. we had one half-infused person on a Markis run and he always ended up dead in every fight)

A slight tangent, but still related to infusion: WHY are pets and henchmen not fully infused by default? Their crappy AI gimps them enough, but having them die in 2 hits to spectral pain completely destroys any hope of doing the last few missions with henchies. Way to screw the casual player...

(for the record, I completed every mission with a pick-up group... point is, I shouldn't have to )

TO be honest I think the designers intended that you find all 3 places to get the infusion done and only infuse the 3 pieces of armor out of 5. Making the Muursatt tough, but still beatable. I fully expect when they get wind of people making 5 "runs" over an hour and a half they are going to change that.
